Heya Mario-

I have dark lashes, but they are barely visible. My lashes are sparse and short, so I'm in the market for a mascara that will maximize my eyes. Can you recommend some of your favorite mascaras to lengthen and volumize my fringe so that they look like false lashes? That's the look that I want, but I don't know if it's even possible. Also, I've heard of those products that claim to grow your lashes, but do any actually work? Thanks for your help, Mario. You're the best!

Hey Nia,

Because you have very sparse and short eyelashes, mascara alone will most likely not give you the look of false lashes. A good mascara like Lancome Hynonose formula will add volume and length to your natural lashes, making them more visible but a mascara can only do so much. A good trick for sparse lashes is to line the lids along the roots of the lashes with a black pencil like MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder. This helps the overall effect so that the sparse areas don't stand out as much. You can consider using a natural strip of false lashes or a few individual lashes applied to the sparse areas as well. As for the products on the market that claim to grow your lashes - I have seen them work on several women but I don't like to recommend any of these products as I’m unsure of their long term effects, if any.

NARS Diamond LifeShimmer Nail Polish

Peep my polish. The shade is Diamond Life from NARS Spring 2012 collection. Sade’s 1984 debut album inspired this metallic violet lacquer.

Believe it or not, I achieved this opacity with just one coat of polish. It took almost no time at all to dry (a huge bonus when you're multitasking and as busy as I am) and I've been getting compliments on my mani all week.

I'll be reviewing some more products from the new collection in the next couple of days...so stay tuned (and save up your cash).

Mario Dedivanovic NYC Makeup Workshop Recap

Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to attend Mario Dedivanovic's first NYC makeup workshop.

Mario is one of the most sought-after makeup artists in the world and is the wizard behind Kim Kardashian's flawless face. His celebrity clientele also includes Natasha Bedingfield, Eliza Dushku, Michelle Williams, Amanda Bynes, Gina Gershon and many others.

Over the course of the five hour seminar, Mario worked his makeup magic, demonstrating how to create a red carpet look - with singer/actress Adrienne Bailon acting as his model. Mario also answered the attendees burning beauty questions, like he does here in his Makeup Mondays with Mario column, and shared his expert techniques. And being the sweetheart that he is, he posed for photos with all of the workshop participants.

That's me in the back, furiously taking notes.

Strike a pose....there's nothing to it...VOGUE!

For those of you who didn't attend, you really missed out. Luckily, I took nine pages of copious notes and here are some gems:

* Mario cleans his makeup brushes with Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo.

* His favorite foundations include Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation, Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and Kevyn Aucoin Liquid Airbrush Foundation.

* When setting foundation with powder, use a velour puff.

* When filling in the eyebrows, you should always go darker on the outside of the brow. This visually lifts and makes eyes look wider set.

* Mario loves Sigma Beauty's Blending Brush #25 to define the eye crease.

* "Making a client feel comfortable is as important than the quality of the work," Mario said. "If a client doesn't feel comfortable, they won't book you again."

* Kim Kardashian's makeup can take up to 2 hours, whereas her sister Kourtney likes her makeup to be done in 20 minutes or less.

* Mario's favorite highlighter is one that he custom blended himself. "EYE M GLAM is a sheer highlighting powder that will give you the most gorgeous, golden glow. Using GIELLA mineral pigments, I custom blended EYE M GLAM while sitting on the floor in my apartment one evening, determined to come up with the best highlighter." Use it under the brows, on cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose and anywhere else you want to define bone structure. Soon, Giella will be releasing Lip Glam - a peachy golden gloss that Mario mixed to be like EYE M GLAM for lips.

* Mario's favorite liquid eyeliner is MAC Liquid Eye Liner "because it doesn't dry glossy - it dries matte."

* When applying powder cosmetics with brushes, don't pull and drag - it will just smear and ruin your base. Instead, press the bristles into the skin. And don't load up the brush with product. Less is always best because you can add more, if necessary. If you accidentally apply too much, you may have to wipe it off and start over again.

* L'Oreal Voluminous and Lancome Hypnose Drama are Mario's go-to mascaras.

* For false fringe, Mario and Adrienne both love Ardell's #116 lashes. Mario told the workshop attendees that the trick to full and lush-looking false lashes is to layer them. On Adrienne, Mario applied a full strip of the #116 lashes; once dry, he layered a half strip of the #116 on the outer corner of each eye. Once the second layer is dry, draw a line of eyeliner at the base of the lashes - to mask the line. Then curl lashes and apply a coat of mascara to "marry" your real lashes with the false ones and make them appear more natural.

* When applying concealer under the eyes, Mario takes it to a whole nuther level. Using a brush, he applies a cream concealer (that is 2 shades lighter than your skin tone) under each eye - in the shape of an inverted triangle. The bottom tip of the triangle should be mid-cheek, at the level of your nostril. Then layer a liquid concealer on top of the cream concealer (Mario likes Make Up For Ever Lift Concelaer). Then blend...blend...blend, girl - using the ultimate beauty tool, the beautyblender sponge.

* When you're finished your makeup, apply MAC Fix+ to set everything. Mario said, "The silicone in it makes all of the makeup look more natural."

To Get The Look: The trick to creating a soft, flattering updo to is to first create a lot of volume. Butler used Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse on damp hair, then blow dryed it. Next, curl hair with a large barrel curling iron for extra volume, then pull hair back into a high pony and wrap it into a tight knot. (Danes' look was only secured with TWO hair pins!) Polished: Deborah Lippmann Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather is the product of two people who are among the best in their industries. Deborah Lippmann is a top manicurist who has her own line that includes over 65 shades of nail polish. Narciso Rodriguez a fashion designer known for his sleek, modern designs and use of clean colors. I am an admirer of both of their work!

Stormy weather is a shade that Deborah Lippmann created with Narciso Rodriguez for his Fall 2011 show. It is a deep granite creme shade, that is unlike any color I have seen on the market. As a fan of dark and unexpected nail polish, I had to have this color. I was very excited when it appeared in my Christmas stocking, and could not wait to get some time for a manicure.

This is a great quality polish. It went on smoothly, and looked exactly like it did in the bottle. Above is a shot of two coats of the polish.

Then, it was time to play. After admiring matte effect nails for a long time, I finally purchased my own matte topcoat. I chose OPI for Sephora ($9.50). Here is a shot of Stormy Weather and a matte topcoat.

I could not be happier with this manicure!

OPI's Rainbow Connection (from The Muppets collection) is billed as the rainbow glitter of your dreams, and oh, it is. This polish contains both small and large chunks of multi-colored glitter - blue, silver, red, orange, pink, green!

I had to to turn off my flash in iPhoto just to get a decent picture of my manicure, as all the photos I took with the flash on just looked like a blur of glitter.

This polish is definitely statement-making, and I think it is a great accessory for the holidays. I am considering a base coat of black polish, topped with Rainbow Connection as my festive manicure for New Year's Eve. What do you think of this polish?

As a fan of long-wear makeup, I was ecstatic to receive the Wild and Chic Best of MAKE UP FOR EVER Kit.

I usually spend about five minutes on my makeup every morning. Before leaving the house (yes, I'm one of those girls) I apply foundation, pressed powder, eyeliner, mascara, and lip stain - at minimum. I recently tested all of the products in this kit, minus the lipgloss. No offense to MAKE UP FOR EVER, but I'm not a gloss girl.

First, here is a photo of me with no makeup on. This is what I start with.

I first applied the HD Microperfecting Primer, which made my skin feel smooth and wasn't too heavy. I then applied my regular foundation. Next up was the Aqua Eyes eyeliner (inside upper lid, and on upper lid), which was precise but had smude-ability. I added Aqua Cream in 13 from the liner to my brow bone, and it gave the perfect amount of color and highlight. Then two coats of Smoky Lash Mascara, which I was probably the most curious about. My lashes are long, and hit my brow bone, so at the end of every day I have to make sure I haven't turned into a raccoon. Finally, I dusted the HD Microfinish Powder over my entire face.

This whole process took about 10 minutes. I was eager to see if my extra time in the morning would hold up by the end of the day. This is what I looked like at 8 a.m., post makeup application.

I then walked eight blocks to work on a foggy and humid day, had a typical seven hour day at work, and walked home the eight blocks in the humidity. This was unintentionally the perfect day to test these products!

Here is a photo of what I looked like when I got home.

Everything had held up really well! The eyeliner, Aqua Cream, and mascara looked as good as they had 10 hours earlier. My foundation had melted a little, mostly in the T-zone area, which was to be expected after a humid day.

Overall, I adore this product set, and it was absolutely worth doubling the amount of time I spend applying makeup in the morning. I would suggest this most to ladies who have a long day ahead of them, and no time for a mirror check. Trust me, all MAKE UP FOR EVER products will stay exactly where you applied them, and you will look fresh and lovely (not made-up and cakey).

If The Shoe Fits: Audrey Brooke Paris Flat

For years, Tory Burch's Reva flats (left) have been on my wardrobe wish-list. But every time I work up the nerve to exercise my Visa, something always rains on my fancy footwear parade.

In 2009, I was this close to adopting a pair of the iconic ballet flats - but then I got pregnant and decided to wait until after I gave birth and my feet stopped growing. Then after I had Westley, I put Reva back on my shopping list - only to find that the style runs too narrow for my fat, flat feet.

I was ready to give up the dream until this week, during a routine venture to my neighborhood DSW. I was actually shopping for my son, but after being informed that they don't sell kids shoes in the stores (only online), I decided that it shouldn't be a wasted trip so I took a quick survey of the womens' section before heading on my way.

That's when I saw it...the Audrey Brooke Paris Flat. I was immediately enamored with the Reva doppleganger and rendered positively giddy by the price tag - just $59.95! But would the shoe fit? As I hurriedly removed my Ugg boot and slipped my foot into the shoe, I said a little prayer and...it fit like a glove. Not to sound dramatic - okay, maybe just a little - it was a Cinderella moment.

Alas, I didn't buy the shoe in the store because I figured I could save more if I purchased online. So as soon as I returned home, I got on the Internet and picked up a black pair for less than $30. As I explained in a recent review of the Audrey Brooke Leopard Satchel, the awesome thing about DSW.com is that you can combine coupon codes. By combining some promo codes I researched online and cashing in some coupons I received as a DSW Rewards member (sign up...it's free!), I saved $30 and got free shipping.

In addition to black leather, the Paris Flat is available in a metalic leather and a leopard print haircalf. They leopard ones aren't available online, but I spotted them in the store - just, sadly, not in my size. So I called some other local DSW stores and tracked down a pair in my size - and they're on hold until I can go adopt them on Friday. I can't wait!!!

Update: I scooped up the shoes a few days ago and I am so proud of my purchase. Too cute, right?

Maybe it's a godsend that my feet are so fat...because, for less than the price of Reva, I can pick up all three pairs of Paris.

Remember that early 90's made-for-TV movie with Jennifer Grey and Rob Lowe called If The Shoe Fits? My DSW shopping experience reminded me of that film so I'm taking a trip down memory lane and sharing the trailer with you. Enjoy!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Defined Eye Crease

You are a huge inspiration to me you truly inspire me to try new and different unique things as a make up artist. There is just one thing I find tricky to achieve when I do make up. What's a easy way for a really defined eye crease? I find it very challenging to create this look and I always end up with two different shapes on each eye! What's the trick?

Hi Janet,

Thank you and Happy Halloween! :-). When going for a defined crease, using a typical dome shaped blending brush will not do the trick. Instead, try using a pencil along the crease. Use a small eye shadow brush or Q-tip to softly blend the line from side to side. If you want to define it more, try drawing a very thin line along the crease using a liquid liner. A thin eyeliner brush and eyeshadow also works well.

Polished: A Note On Nail Art

Hello, spoiled pretty readers!

I adore good nail art. The Internet is full of great examples - chevron stripes, zombie faces, manicures in Tiffany blue with white detail to look like gift boxes - the examples are endless.

Personally, I always wanted to achieve half-moon nails at home. A beauty idol of mine, Dita Von Teese, often rocks a perfect half-moon manicure with ruby red and bare nail.

For my first attempt, I painted the bottom half of my nails silver, and went for purple on the top portion of the nail. It was so ugly, I destroyed the photographic evidence.

For my second and final attempt, I went for bare nails on the bottom portion, and red on the rest of the nail. I applied stickers meant for french manicures on the bottom of my nail, and painted over them. You are supposed to wait until the polish is completely dry to remove the stickers. I didn't exactly trust that, so I removed the stickers when the polish was still slightly tacky.

Some stickers left a well-defined line behind, some were crooked, and more still looked like I hadn't even used stickers at all. Ugh.

I came to the conclusion that I am far too much of a perfectionist to ever be happy with do-it-yourself nail art on my own nails. I applaud those of you who have the patience and artistic ability to do it, I am just not one of those people. So, I am going to stick to what I am good at - basic manicures!

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Don't Make Me Matte

Hi Mario,

I have really dry skin so I am not really a fan of matte foundations. I always use foundations that give me a radiant, dewy glow - however every time I set my foundation with my compact powder, I lose my glow and my skin gets matte and dull. It looks dry all over again which makes me not want to set my foundation. Is there a way I can set everything without losing the glow?

The reason you're looking matte and probably muddy is because you're using a compact powder to set your foundation! You should always set your base using loose powder.

Pressed powders usually have too much coverage to use over a foundation, not to mention all the additional ingredients that are used to make the powder into a pressed compact. They're great for touchups throughout the day or for areas that need more coverage.

Try setting your makeup with a loose powder. They come in translucent and even light reflecting formulas so your skin will maintain the glow. I prefer using a velour puff to apply the powder evenly and set your foundation.

After weeks of sporting a chipped-up, raggedy-ass-looking mani because I was too busy to get my nails did, I finally found some time to do them myself. Peep my new polish...

I started with a coat of Zoya Get Even (to create a smooth surface) and a coat of Zoya Anchor base coat. Then I applied two coats of Coco Blue, from the Les Jeans De CHANEL collection. Once Coco Blue dried, I layered OPI's Crown Me Already! (from the Miss Universe collection) - a mix of sparkly microglitter and larger glitter pieces. Finally, I sealed the deal with Zoya Armor topcoat.

Polished: Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Enchanted Garnet

I was really excited to get this color from Daneen to try. Estee Lauder is a brand that I don't often think of, but they have been putting out cosmetics in rich, exciting colors - and this polish is no exception! In the bottle, Enchanted Garnet is a clear, shiny red. My excitement faded as I started to apply the polish. The consistency is just off - it was sticky to apply, and dried in translucent layers that showed any and all flaws in my nails. I really wanted to like this polish, but I was disappointed. My search for the perfect blood red continues!

The trick to achieving the look of a bold eye and bold lip in real life is to do it at the right time and for the right occasion. If not, you just won't feel confident or comfortable.

To start experimenting with the bold look, use sheer formulas and textures. Instead of black smokey eyes and a matte opaque red lip, pair a sheer red lip color with a strong smokey eye using shimmery bronze shadow. Keep your skin natural and glowing, but make your lashes long and dramatic.

I guarantee you that in no time you will be inspiring other girls to be bold and beautiful, just like you ;-).

Deborah Lippmann Waking Up In Vegas

You know those tabs that come in Lucky Magazine? You know, the ones so you can bookmark the pages so you can flag the items that you want to buy? Well, those stickers would be completely useless with the latest Nordstrom catalog. Seriously, whoever put that look book together has a window into the retail-obsessed part of my soul. I want every single thing in that catalog to leap off of the pages and hang itself in my closet.

But what I'm particularly coveting is the gray nail lacquer that some of the models are wearing.

The polish isn't advertised, so I hit Nordstrom up on Twitter to inquire about who makes it. They quickly responded with an answer (big props to Nordie's excellent customer-service). Turns out the shade is Deborah Lippmann Waking Up In Vegas, described as a "putty-liscious gray creme."

Dermalogica Daily Clean Scrub

Anyone who knows me knows that I love me some Dermalogica. My problem skin has never responded to skincare products the way it does to Dermalogica. Even though I test a lot of products, I always keep Dermalogica products in the rotation because, otherwise, my skin up and stages a mutiny. Polished: Milani Fresh Teal

Whenever I am in a drug store, I end up wandering down the beauty aisles just in case there is something new that I need. Milani is one of my go-to drug store brands, as they always have a nice range of fun colors. Last week, Fresh Teal jumped out at me.

Pretty much every magazine listed teal as a trend color for the fall, and this is a great one. It is bright and fun without being too neon or obnoxious. I also really like Milani's brush - it is thin enough to get right into the corners of the nail without running over onto your cuticles. I'm not usually one to attempt any sort of nail art, but I feel like this polish would pair perfectly with polka dots or a stripe of of OPI's That's Berry Daring. And at $4.49 a bottle, this is a great way to try out a trend color in an affordable way.

It was only this spring – a few months shy of my 33^rdbirthday – that I started to feel old. One night as I was washing my face, Inoticed an albino hair in my bangs. I quickly plucked it to inspect it moreclosely. It was only half white, so I convinced myself that this hair was afreak of nature that somehow got half bleached.

A few weeks later, I found a half dozen more “bleached”hairs and had an all-out panic attack. I mean, seriously – those suckers weremultiplying like Gremlins after a midnight snack. It wasn’t just that I was comingto terms with getting older – but going gray is a huge deal. Once you go gray,coloring your hair isn’t just for fun. It becomes a PITA part of your routine,for the rest of your life – like shaving. Between my job, this blog, being a momand a wife, my to-do list is already never-ending. Makeup Mondays With Mario: How To Set Under Eye Concealer

Hi Mario,

I have been struggling to find a powder to set my concealer without it caking or eventually creasing. I don't know if I'm applying the powder wrong. I use a sponge and swipe my compact, then press it under my eyes. What powders - both high end and drugstore - would you recommend to set concealer? And with what makeup tool should I apply it with (i.e. sponge, powder puff, makeup brush)?

Hi Alyssa,

You should not be using a compact powder to set your under eye concealer. Pressed powders are too heavy to set that area with. What you want is a very fine loose translucent powder to set your makeup with. Dip a basic cosmetic sponge (I like the white wedges from the pharmacy) into your loose powder to pick up a generous amount of the powder and pat/press over the concealer under the eyes. Follow with a clean brush to sweep away the access powder from that area.

Be sure to get a powder that is colorless or a couple of shades lighter then your skin tone so that you don't get that "muddy" look which happens when foundation is set by powder that is too dark. Any brand of loose powder will work - it's just a preference. I suggest you go out and try a few to see what feels best on your skin. Thanks for visiting Makeup Mondays with Mario!

Polished: How To Remove Glitter Nail Polish

I love glitter nail polish. It is sparkly and fun and statement-making and just so nice to look at while I type all day. I do not love removing said glitter nail polish. I usually apply 2-3 coats to get maximum sparkle impact, but then am stuck scrubbing and scraping it off when I decide it is time for a new manicure. Personally, I do not think it is right to spend more time removing nail polish than it took to apply it in the first place.

Enter my glitter fairy godmother at a nearby beauty store. I had a bottle of Deborah Lippmann Bad Romance in my hand – it is a gorgeous color, but I was complaining about what a pain it is to remove glitter nail polish.

She suggested placing a nail-polish remover soaked cotton ball on the polished nail, wrapping the tip of your finger and cotton ball in aluminum foil, waiting a few minutes, and the glitter would come right off.

I was skeptical but intrigued. After Google-ing “nail polish remover + aluminum foil interactions” and deciding that this method would not make my fingers fall off, I gave it a try.

HOLY CRAP, did it work. I made myself little alien fingers, waited about 5 minutes, and voila! The nail polish came almost completely off, and the leftover edges came off after another swipe. I am beyond excited to have a foolproof way to remove my most glittery polish!

My name is Alyssa, and I am lucky enough to be one of Daneen’s coworkers. As you may have noticed, I like a good manicure (looky here and here).

Since Daneen literally has her hands full with one-year-old Westley, I get the chance to bring you the latest nail news.

Recently, a batch of nails inc. colors came into the office, and I was immediately taken with nails inc. Fitzroy Square 3D glitter, which is described as clear with green glitter and chunky teal glitter. Swoon. Though I work in a business casual office, envelope-pushing nail polish is acceptable, so I knew this was my next manicure.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of glitter that this polish contains. Most glitter nail polish has a few flecks with mostly clear, but this was saturated, which was great. Here is what three coats looks like...

This polish is definitely not for the faint of heart, but I got a lot of compliments on it. I absolutely recommend this polish for anyone looking for a little sparkle!

I've got three words for you - "Pores No More." Famed dermatologist Dr. Brandt created Pores No More products to help visibly reduce the size and appearance of large pores.

You can follow with your normal makeup routine or even try a product like Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base by L'Oreal. Just apply with your finger to the T-zone and any areas with large pores. It will smooth out the skin's texture and fill in fine lines and pores for a more flawless makeup application.

Since adolescence, I've suffered with hyperpigmentation. Like many women of color, my blemishes leave dark marks in their wake - which can take weeks, months and even years to fade. For forever, I've used foundations and highlighters to hide these dark spots. But I've recently come to a point in my life where I'm tired of masking the problem. As a busy mom, I don't have the time or the energy it takes to put on a full face of makeup on a regular basis. Most days, I leave the house bare faced - save for some mascara and a couple swipes of gloss. Hyperpigmentation has undermined my self esteem for too long, so I decided it was time to heal, rather than conceal.

To make brown eyes pop, I prefer using bronze and copper eyeshadows to give a smoky eye, both on the lids and along the lower lash line. Try a metallic bronze or golden pencil in the inner rims or a shadow with a clean brush will do the trick. This will help lighten and bring out the gold tones in your eyes.

Throw some Visine, a great lash curler and mascara into the mix and those blue eyed girls won't have nothin' on you!

I'd like some advice on how to best clean my makeup brushes. I don't know if I should be using soap, shampoo or a special kind of brush cleaner. And how often should I be cleaning them? I've spent a small fortune on brushes but have no idea how to care for them.

Hi Ella,

It took years of experimenting with different techniques and products to clean my brushes and I've found a way that works for me. I hope it does for you as well.

To clean brushes with natural or synthetic bristles, I use a basic hair shampoo. First run water over the brush hair then rub into the shampoo in a circular motion (I pour a bit of shampoo into a bowl). Rinse under running water again to get all of the soap out. I finish off by squeezing the water out, making sure not to pull on the hairs.

To dry your brushes, you should lay them flat on a towel. If you stand them up in a cup to dry, the water seeps into the handle and causes the brush to weaken and fall apart over time.

Miami, Mary Kay and Mercedes-Benz - Oh My!

A few weekends ago, I attended Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012 in Miami, as a correspondent for Mary Kay - and they put me up in a gorgeous room at Fashion Week headquarters, The Raleigh Hotel.

I had the most fabulous time in South Beach, getting acquainted with the Coyne PR beauty girls and the other blogger correspondents, Annie Tomlin from BellaSugar.com and Lizzie Dunlap from RealBeauty.com.

In between makeovers, delish dinners and runway shows, I was also able to schedule some mojito-sipping downtime with one of my BFFs, Aimee.

If you're ever in Miami, I highly recommend the Raleigh Hotel. The rooms, service and ambiance were incredible - and the picturesque pool was just the cherry on top.

Congradulations! A great foundation to use on your wedding day is Dior's Diorskin Sculpt Line-Smoothing Lifting Makeup. I'm a fan of lifting and line-smoothing products, regardless of age.

Make Up For Ever Custom Lashes

While in Miami for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I stopped by the Make Up For Ever booth at my hotel, The Raleigh Hotel, which also happened to be Fashion Week headquarters. Make Up For Ever was an official sponsor of the event - and so they set up shop and were making made-to-order lashes for Fashion Week revelers. You could customize a pair of their fashion lashes with glitter, feathers and other fun accessories - like mini butterflies and bows. I accessorized mine with gold and pink glitter, and black and white feathers.

I wore mine to the Skintimate/Mara Hoffman Swim Show after party (more on that later). At first, I felt a little bit silly - but after a while, I started to embrace the lashes. I mean, where better to rock flashy fringe than Miami Fashion Week?

Revlon Crazy Shine Nail Buffer

My natural nails, sans polish, are so dull that I'm kind of embarassed to go without polish. So when I saw Revlon's new Crazy Shine Nail Buffer at my local CVS, I snatched it up. And, let me tell you...the name is accurate. Crazy accurate, in fact. My iPhone photo above doesn't do the shine justice.

The double sided buffer smoothes and evens out the nail surface - creating an outrageous, mirror-like finish. The tool promises to create 400% more shine than bare nails. To be honest, I couldn't tell you the difference between a 100% and 400% increase in shine, but I will say that it looks like I'm wearing a clear topcoat on my nails. And this was achieved in about three minutes (all 10 nails) - no drying time necessary. What I also love is that you can use the white side on polished nails - to restore shine when your mani is looking a lil murky.

Gold 'N Hot 1875 Watt Foldable Handle Travel Dryer

To get my relaxed hair poker straight after shampooing, I rely on a comb/pik attachment when blow drying. Hi Jamie,

If your question about sunscreen came to me about a year ago, I probably would not have answered because until recently, I was not a fan of the SPF products on the market. Like you said, they tend to make you look chalky and I feel that makeup doesn’t sit or blend well over it. I am not suggesting that you shouldn't use an SPF. In fact, I strongly recommend that women apply sunscreen daily to protect the skin and prevent skin damage.

I’ve found an amazing product by Josie Maran Cosmetics that I love! It will not make you look chalky and your makeup will blend nicely and stay true to its color. Argan Oil Daily Moisturizer with SPF 40 blocks all the harmful UVA and UVB rays - but this product is different as it contains Argan Oil which repairs and reverses damage caused by the sun, fights signs of aging and improves skin tone for a radiant, renewed complexion. Oh, and one more thing - you can use it as a primer as well! Need I say more?

Urban Decay Summer 2011 Collection

A few weeks ago, Urban Decay sent me their Summer 2011 Collection to test and review. As a huge fan of Urban Decay (they're one of my all time favorite brands - I love their rock and roll vibe and I’m addicted to their 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils), I always have high expectations for new products. And this collection does not disappoint.

Usually when I receive an entire collection to review, I'll choose a few of the best products and feature them here. This collection, which is comprised of some familiar faces and some new makeup bag staples, has so many choice products that I'm going to review the whole she-bang.

Okay, time to break it down...

The Rollergirl Nail Kit includes six mini bottles of summer's IT shades: Fame (shimmery beige), Superfreak (gold glitter), Xanadu (Purple Glitter), Miss T (pearly fuchsia), Woodstock (hot pink) and Love Train (iridescent white). Something to note about these lilliputian lacquers is that each brush has 220 strands, just like a standard polish brush - so it delivers the same flawless finish as a bigger bottle. I painted a pedicure using Woodstock a two weeks ago and it's still holding on and looking hot.

Even if you own just about every Urban Decay product that exists - like me - here's a reason you should still add the Rollergirl Eyeshadow Palette to your shopping list: one of the shadow shades, Verve (pale champagne with oyster shimmer), is exclusive to this set. Even though I'm brown, I still like to up the ante in the summertime. What I love about Baked Face and Body Bronzers is that they are the antithesis of the flat, orangey bronzers that I loathe. The three shades deliver a gorgeous sunkissed glow that actually looks like it may have come from, well, the sun. I'm going to Miami in a few days and I couldn't decided which one should come with. In the end, I opted for Gilded (smoldering bronze shimmer). Besides being a gorgeous shade, I also figured that it could pull double duty as an eyeshadow. Genius consideration, right?

Lip Love Honey-Infused Lip Therapy gives lips a sheer/stained effect. The conditioning formula nourishes your pout, sans stickiness. Available in five shades (Stung, a sheer blackberry, is the prettiest IMO), the gloss smells and tastes like honey. Problem is I don't like honey - the smell or the taste of it. But if you don't have honey hangups, these are some gorgeous glosses to add to your collection.

Urban Decay is celebrating 15 years in the beauty biz with the Quinceanera Makeup Bag. This baby is already packed in suitcase for Miami. It's the perfect size for a product packrat like me. Roomy enough so that I can travel with enough stock, but not so cavernous that I'm tempted to fill it up with everything I own. LOVE!

Finally, there's the Urban Bride Kit. Urban Decay says, "If you're looking for something new to give your favorite bride, lavish her with this decadent gift-ready box of travel-sized products designed to keep her looking exquisite all day (and night, wink wink)." But, honestly, you don't need to be a bride-to-be to enjoy this set. I've been a Mrs. for 4 years and I'm crushing on this kit. It contains:

I lead a double life...hell, triple, to be honest. I have a full-time job, manage Spoiled Pretty in my spare time and I'm the mom of a very active baby boy, Westley. So I can really appreciate a beauty product that does double duty while, literally, shaving time off my beauty routine.

The smell is divine. The brand sent me the Vanilla Passion Fruit to test, which is a wonderful summertime fragrance. It's not too strong, yet not so light that - mid shower - you're thinking, "What scent is this supposed to be, again?" It also won't compete with your lotion or perfume, if you choose something other than the corresponding LAVANILA body products.

OPI Shorts Story

Peep my polish. It's OPI Shorts Story. I have my friend/co-worker, Alyssa, to thank for this discovery. She's been wearing it for the past week and after she caught me coveting her pedi like a thousand times, she benevolently bought me a bottle. This lovely lacquer is a bright, blue based pink that covers perfectly with 2 coats. It's the perfect summer shade for me, as it pops against my tan skin - without looking garish. Though I don't work in a corporate environment that frowns on trendy nail colors, I imagine that this would be a great shade for girls who wanna have fun with their manicures, but also need to look business class-y (provided that you keep your nails short).

Makeup Mondays With Mario: Make Lips Appear Smaller

I read this site every week for your tips! Love them! :) This may sound like a stupid question, but here goes anyway! I always read articles in magazines/on blogs about how to plump your lips, however I have the opposite problem. My lips literally take over my whole face (and not in the sexy Angelina Jolie way!). I love wearing MAC lipglasses/lipsticks but they only seem to enhance them - any tricks on how to make them appear a bit smaller?

I hope you know that the majority of people out there - including myself - could only dream of having your "problem," LOL. There are ways to change the shape of your lips and make them appear a bit smaller. I’ll share two ways of how you can do this, starting with the more difficult.

Use a concealer brush with a cream concealer (try a formula that isn't too oily) and apply lightly around and on your natural lip line - similar to how you would line your lips with a pencil. Use more product on the outer corners of the top and bottom lips rather then on the center because that will typically give the lips a lift. Erasing the outer corners of the lips or shortening them can also be a more flattering, happy shape.

Using a damp sponge like the beautyblender, gently press and blend the concealer into your skin. This technique should erase your lip line, or at least soften it quite a bit. If you're brave, try lining the lip below your natural lip line to create a new, smaller shape. If you're happy with how it looks then set it with a bit of translucent powder. This technique isn't for everyone and most likely will take quite a bit of practice to perfect.

A much more simple solution would be to play up your eyes and leave the lips free of colors and textures as they will only enhance and bring attention to them. If there’s a man in your life, I can guarantee that he will appreciate the more simple solution. :-)

For the longest time, I've had a $50 gift card to Barneys New York. 50 bucks doesn't go far at Barneys which is why it took me so long to get my virtual shop on. But recently, I decided to cash it in on a bottle of Kai Perfume Oil - and let me tell you, while the bottle is tiny ($48 gets you 1/8 oz), this was money very well spent.

Nine West Wowza Sandals

So this weekend, I went shoe shopping at Macy's and bought these super fun Wowza sandals (also available in gold) from Nine West. They look so good on my feet that the $79 price tag didn't really faze me. But it sure stung later that day when I saw my new shoes on ninewest.com - for $32 cheaper!

Now, if it was only a $5, $10, or $15 difference, I might have just cursed my bad luck and got on with my life. But $32 is a different story. So I went back to Macy's, returned the sandals and then bought them online when I returned home. I even managed to find a free shipping coupon code, so I made out like a bandit.

Only down side is that I have to wait about a week to wear my cute new kicks.
